Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on Saturday added 12 more Covid-19 micro containment zones in the city and removed 21 such zones from the list. With today’s update, there are a total of 105 active zones in Ahmedabad.
As many as 112 houses with a population of 318 were declared as micro containment zones on Saturday, the AMC informed Vibes of India (VO!). The corporation identifies zones in areas that are seemingly Covid hotspots due to a large number of cases being recorded there and imposes restrictions to curb the further spread of the virus. The southwest zone saw as many as five new containment zones declared on Saturday whereas four new containment zones were declared in the northwest zone.
The drive of identifying zones was started again in November, as the city began to see an uptick in coronavirus cases. The drive has now gained more steam with the surge of cases brought on by the Omicron variant. The practice of identifying these zones was discontinued in May last year.
