Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation on Tuesday added 23 more Covid-19 micro containment zones in the city, while removing 29 such zones from the list. With today’s update, the tally has been brought down to 105.
As many as 163 houses with a population of 642 were declared as micro containment zone on Tuesday, the AMC informed Vibes of India (VoI).
The corporation identifies micro containment zones in areas that are seemingly Covid hotspots due to a large number of cases being recorded there and imposes restrictions to curb the further spread of the virus.
The drive of identifying micro containment zones was started again in November, as the city began to see an uptick in coronavirus cases. The drive has now gained more steam with the surge of cases brought on about by the Omicron variant. The practice of identifying the micro containment zones was discontinued in May last year.
