Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesday added 12 more Covid-19 micro containment zones in the city, while removing 29 such zones from the list. With today’s update, there are a total of 171 active micro containment zones in Ahmedabad.
As many as 47 houses with a population of 168 were declared as micro containment zones on Wednesday, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation informed Vibes of India.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation identifies micro containment zones in areas that are seemingly Covid hotspots due to a large number of cases being recorded there and imposes restrictions to curb the further spread of the virus. The southwest zone saw as many as seven new containment zones declared on Monday.
The drive of identifying micro containment zones was started again in November, as the city began to see an uptick in coronavirus cases. The drive has now gained more steam with the surge of cases brought on by the Omicron variant. The practice of identifying the micro containment zones was discontinued in May last year.
