No doubt Amazon has redefined our shopping sprees. Not only does it offer an endless array to select from, the prices are competitive and often, cheaper than what is offered at the retail outlet. However, sticking out like a sore thumb, comes this story from Delhi, where the giant selling platform ends up scoring low on the quality assurance.
Delhi resident Maya Singh (name changed) ordered a Prestige electrical vegetable chopper on Amazon. Her order arrived promptly on September 12, 2021. However, on inspection, the package did not look fresh. “What’s worse, there were scratches on the inners and the blade seemed visibly used,” she shared with VO! on request for an exchange, the portal was granted.
Within seven days, an Amazon representative arrived with the new package. “I requested him to let me check the product first before the exchange . However, he turned down the plea and behaved rather rudely, adding that I was just wasting his time,” added Maya. Thereon, not wanting to enter into any altercation, Maya handed over the old piece, took the new one, signed the papers and the sales representative took off.
But her woes compounded when Maya plugged it on for the first use. It stopped working within seconds. An electrician was called in, who showed her the burnt coils within and informed her that a few more seconds of running the motor could have led to a short circuit!
“Amazon was quick to refund. However, I am more concerned about the quality assurance. Prestige washed its hand off saying that it is a store to consumer matter. Amazon did not have an answer except the refund. Is it merely reduced to a courier enterprise now? How does one know that goods ordered online are not defective and might not entail a mishap?”
Maya’s question does leave one with worrying answers.
