Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that “almost all” pending ideological tasks, including the abrogation of Article 370, have been completed by the Narendra Modi government, and assured that the government will continue on this path in its third tenure.
Shah made these statements during the inauguration of the Hindu Spiritual & Service Fair, also known as the ‘Hindu Adhyatmik Seva Mela’, held at the Gujarat University grounds in Ahmedabad.
In his address, Shah reflected on the changing societal dynamics, asserting, “There was a time when Hindus hesitated to disclose their identity in their own country.”
He added, “In 10 years, the situation has changed. Now, almost all the pending works as per our ideology have been completed, be it the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, abolition of triple talaq and implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC).”
While acknowledging that the UCC has not yet been implemented at the national level, Shah pointed out that BJP-ruled Uttarakhand has introduced it.
He had previously informed the Rajya Sabha that the UCC would be implemented in all states.
Shah expressed pride in the global recognition of Yoga, saying, “It is a matter of pride that 170 countries accepted Yoga.”
He also highlighted the government’s success in recovering nearly 350 stolen idols of deities from around the world, remarking, “During the G20 Summit, leaders from across the world came here and offered their tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, which is also a matter of pride for us.”
Regarding the Hindu Adhyatmik Seva Mela, Shah noted that Hindu temples and organisations have contributed significantly to society by educating tribal communities and providing healthcare to millions of poor citizens, yet their efforts often go unrecognised.
He expressed gratitude to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for bringing together various service-oriented Hindu organisations under one roof through this event, saying, “so that people understand the contribution of these institutions.”
The Seva Mela features around 200 stalls from Hindu organisations dedicated to societal betterment, including one stall dedicated to Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar, the 18th-century ruler of Indore state, who is known for restoring nearly 200 temples, including Somnath, which were destroyed by Muslim invaders.
Shah concluded his speech by emphasising the importance of recognising and celebrating the contributions of these organisations to society.
