Congress is all set for its Working Committee Meeting (CWC) in Ahmedabad, India’s strongest BJP bastion, tomorrow on Tuesday. Over 159 party leaders will attend this extended CWC meeting at the Sardar (Vallabhabhai Patel), Memorial in Shahibaug area.
The CWC meeting will be followed by the AICC convention on the Sarbarmati Riverfront on Wednesday which is expected to be attended by nearly 3000 people from across the country.
The CWC, which is Congress’ top body, takes decisions on important policy and organisational matters. It also guides and directs party’s activities at the national level.
The highest executive committee of the party, the CWC is headed by the Congress national party president. The current CWC is headed by party president Mallikarjun Kharge. The CWC also comprises party leader in the Parliament. Normally, the CWC has 23 members, 12 of whom are elected by the AICC and the rest are appointed by the party president. The composition of the CWC keeps changing as there are special invitees for the sessions as well.
Among the top Congress leaders attending the meeting are party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Digvijay Singh, D K Shiv Kumar and A K Antony. Other leaders attending the meeting include Bhupesh Baghel, Jairam Ramesh, Meira Kumar, NSUI president Varun Choudhary, M. Veerappa Moily, Alka Lamba, Pawan Khera, Lal Thanhawla, R. V. Lyngdoh and Pratibha Singh.
According to the list, exclusively available with Vibes of India, six party leaders from Gujarat will attend the CWC meeting. Former Gujarat Congress president Jagdish Thakor will attend the meeting as CWC member. The incumbent president Shaktisinh Gohil will attend the meeting as Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president and Amit Chavda as Congress Legislative Party leader.
Former MPs Dr. Amee Yagnik and Madhusudhan Mistry will attend the meeting in their capacities as Central Election Committee members of the party.
Seva Dal chief, Lalji Desai, is a special invitee at the meeting.
Ketan Patel, president of the party’s unit in Daman & Diu, will attend the meeting in his capacity as pcc chief.
The AICC convention is being organized in Gujarat after 64 years. The last one was organised at Bhavnagar in 1961.
