The Vadodara city police have apprehended all five suspects involved in the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl in the Bhayli area. Police Commissioner Narasimha Komar addressed the media at the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) Police Station this afternoon, confirming the arrests.
Three of the main accused have been identified as Munna Abbas Vanjara, 27, from Tandalja area; Mamtaz, also known as Aftab Subedar, a relative of the primary suspect and Sharukh Ali, 27. All three hail from Uttar Pradesh.
Commissioner Komar detailed the swift investigation: “Following the sexual assault report on the 4th, we immediately launched an inquiry. Given the gravity of the crime, the Vadodara Crime Branch was brought in. Within 48 hours, we successfully identified and arrested the suspects.”
The breakthrough came after analysing evidence from the crime scene, including the victim’s mobile phone records and CCTV footage. “Discrepancies in the victims’ accounts were also considered, leading to the successful arrests,” Komar added.
The suspects are now being transferred to the Rural Police for further investigation. Two additional individuals, known associates of the accused, have been detained for questioning due to their potentially suspicious involvement.
The incident occurred late Friday night when the victim and a male friend were accosted by five men on motorcycles at a secluded spot around 11:30 PM. After initial resistance, two assailants fled, leaving three behind. One overpowered the boy while the others took turns assaulting the girl before departing at approximately 12:30 a.m.
Police were alerted around 1 a.m. and responded promptly. The Vadodara DCB assisted in the manhunt, with forensic teams collecting evidence.
The suspects, reportedly involved in the POP business, are currently undergoing verification at the DCB police station.
