Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport has introduced the Self Baggage Drop (SBD) facility at Domestic Terminal T-1 as part of the airport’s effort to streamline the baggage drop-off process.
The SBD facility is intended to reduce passengers’ wait time for baggage drop-off and can accommodate up to three flyers per minute, ensuring a speedy and hassle-free check-in experience.
The installation of two self-baggage drop machines at the airport’s Domestic Terminal T-1 allows passengers to complete their check-in process through an automated system.
To use the SBD service, passengers should begin by generating their boarding passes and baggage tags at the self-check-in kiosk. Subsequently, they can proceed to the SBD facility, where they will scan their boarding pass, declare that their luggage complies with safety regulations, and place their baggage on the designated belt. Baggage within the permissible allowance will be automatically transferred to the sorting area, generating a receipt.
Currently, the SBD facility is accessible to Indigo passengers at the Departure Check-in Hall of Domestic Terminal T-1, with other airlines expected to join soon.
To utilise the facility a passenger should first visit the Self Check-In kiosk, generate his/her boarding pass, and obtain baggage tags by following on-screen instructions and entering the necessary information.
Then he/she has to proceed to the SBD counter with the boarding pass and baggage tags. At the counter one has to scan his/her boarding pass at the designated scanner.
Following this, one should securely attach the baggage tag to the luggage, ensuring it’s visible and properly marked. For irregular or delicate bags, a flyer can use the baggage tubs near the machine, as their weight has been pre-calibrated.
One must also declare that his/her luggage is free of prohibited or dangerous items, an essential security measure for the safety of all passengers.
Then it is time to load the baggage onto the designated belt following the provided instructions and guidelines.
A receipt will then be generated, which can be collected from the SBD machine.
