Significant details have emerged from the assembly regarding the seizure of narcotics in Ahmedabad city and district. According to a written reply from the Home Department, drugs worth Rs. 13 crores have been seized in the last two years.
The question, posed by MLA Imran Khedawala of Khadia Jamalpur, sought information about the seizure of narcotics in Ahmedabad city and district. The Home Department’s response revealed that the police have yet to apprehend 556 accused involved in drug trafficking in the area.
Over the past two years, narcotics worth crores of rupees, including foreign liquor, charas, ganja, and drugs such as mephedrone, md drugs, and methamphetamine, have been seized from Ahmedabad city and district.
In 2022, domestic and foreign liquor worth Rs. 13 crores 13 lakhs were seized from Ahmedabad. The following year saw an increase, with seizures of domestic and foreign liquor worth more than 16 crores.
For those seeking detailed information about the drugs seized, in 2022, 2 kilos 601 grams 670 milligrams of mephedrone drugs were seized from Ahmedabad city, valued at 2 crore 58 lakh 17 thousand 440. Other seizures included 5 kilos 737 grams of an unidentified substance, methamphetamine’s 4.020 grams, ketamine’s 590 grams, and MD drugs’ 15 grams 490 milligrams.
In rural Ahmedabad, 16 grams 200 milli of methamphetamine were seized, valued at 1 lakh 62 thousand. In 2023, seizures included 6 kilos 223 grams 90 milli of mephedrone drugs, charas 1 kilo 886 grams, and cocaine 53 grams 60 milli. In rural Ahmedabad, 70 grams 19 milli of methamphetamine were seized, valued at 7 lakh 1 thousand 900.
