Shivali, a resident of the satellite area in Ahmedabad has lodged a complaint with the police against her husband Maalav and his father Pankajbhai Patel for domestic harassment and demanding dowry.
She has claimed that her father-in-law continuously made unreasonable demands for money and that her husband has left for the US abandoning her and their daughter. Shivali claimed that the stress of demands of money took a toll on her father’s health and that he died of a heart attack.
As per claims made by Shivali, she had informed her father about the problems she faced in her household. When her father conveyed the same to her father-in-law, he demanded a plot in Ashwa-villa society and Rs.1.75 crore as well to construct the house on it. Recently, the in-laws planned to sell the house to which Shivali objected. Her father obtained a stay over the sale of the house. Shivali was beaten by her husband and her father over the issue. She was hospitalised.
Shivali moved to Rajpath Club and then to a separate house arranged by her father. During this time, her husband beat up her father Deepakbhai too. Shivali claimed that her father-in-law used to demand money from her father on one pretext or another continuously.
Shivali claimed that after her marriage in 2015, she had always faced problems in the household of her in-laws. She claimed that the grocery doors were shut for her, all her wedding gifts were taken away and that her brother-in-law coming home in inebriated status with friends made her life miserable.
Pankajbhai Patel, incidentally is business partner and relative by alliance of Ramanbhai Patel of controversial Popular builder group of Ahmedabad. Ramanbhai patel himself had been accussed by his own daughter-in law Fizu Patel for inappropriately touching her and torturing for dowry. On August 16, 2020, Fizu had filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws accusing them of assault, attempt to murder, torture and dowry harassment.
