The consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla’s idol in Ayodhya sparked a unique trend in Ahmedabad, which saw an increase in births on Monday. City gynaecologists reported hundreds of babies born through both planned caesarean and medicine-induced normal deliveries, as families orchestrated events to welcome their newborns on this auspicious day.
A particular focus was on the ‘muhurat delivery’ – a specific 84-second window within the 48-minute ‘Abhijeet muhurat’, considered extremely sacred. Such deliveries are usually planned on auspicious days like Janmashtami to coincide with Lord Krishna’s birthday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the idol’s Pran Pratistha ceremony, which took place during the most sacred 84 seconds of the Abhijeet Muhurat from 12:29:03 pm to 12.30:35 pm.
Dr Mohil Patel, who runs a hospital in Naroda, noted, “We had nine planned deliveries today, including five C-sections and four normal deliveries. Most parents preferred the special 84-second muhurat.” He also mentioned other requested times for delivery, primarily between 10 am and 1:30 pm.
Dr Archana Shah from Sannidhya Hospital in South Bopal, a consultant gynaecologist, also experienced a busy day. She delivered seven babies, with several born via C-section. “The families were excited about the sacred day. We even dressed the newborns in special saffron-coloured khadi clothes,” she said.
However, not all timings aligned perfectly. “While many hoped for the 84-second muhurat, some had to wait, with most births occurring in the evening,” Dr Shah noted.
Umang Solanki and Kinjal Solanki welcomed their second daughter, lovingly named Janki, by C-section at a Naranpura hospital on Monday. “We had requested the doctor for the Abhijeet muhurat of this auspicious day and our daughter was born around that time only, at 12.04pm,” said Umang, a working professional who lives in Godrej Garden City.
Mehul Patel, 36, who runs an engineering business and is a gurukul operator from Nikol, expressed his joy at welcoming a daughter during the sought-after muhurat. “We’re thrilled to have our daughter born during this sacred time. Despite the rush, the medical team accommodated our request,” he said.
Neha Desai, 31, a mother from Jetalpur, shared her joy at welcoming her son at 7:55 am. “Knowing the date of Ram Lalla’s ceremony, we aimed for this special day for our son’s birth, close to my due date. Thanks to our gynecologist, Dr Jignesh Shah, it became a reality,” she shared.
