A cotton trader in Ahmedabad today filed a complaint with the cybercrime police as he lost Rs2.39 crores just within three hours of closing his mobile sim. Alkesh Gangani, 34, is a resident of Makarba and runs his business from the Bodakdev office. He conducted many of his financial transactions from his mobile phone.
Gangani told the police that o Sunday, suddenly he had lost mobile network, so he had contacted the telecom company immediately. This is when he was informed that someone had deactivated his sim card. The businessman then rushed to the physical branch and explained the matter to the company personnel. He had ordered another sim card which had been activated about 3 hours later. However, within this time, scammers had already siphoned off Rs2.39 crores from his bank accounts.
The money had been transferred in 28 transactions but Gangani had not received any notifications for the same. He had also not received any OTPs or anything in this regard. He said that in the end, he was able to freeze just one transaction and get Rs10 lakh back into his account.
The police have registered the case and are investigating the matter.
