Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel laid the foundation stone for the new RTO building at Subhash Bridge on November 19, 2021, which is moving at a snail’s pace.
The building that was put on a fast-track basis is not likely to be finished for another year and has already missed its completion date by more than a month.
According to an official, the ground plus three-story building would be completed in 11 months. The old structure had also taken a long time to demolish. Later, construction on the new building was halted during Covid and for a few months following the two-year epidemic.
In terms of design, the structure resembled Ahmedabad’s airport. The 5,000-square-meter main building features a dome with seating for 500 people, full air conditioning, and a large parking lot.
The new structure was to include three tracks, one for each of two and four wheels. Given the rapid pace of construction, it appears that the RTO will need to use rented space for an extended period of time.
