Ahmedabad police arrested Keval Mahendrabhai Patel, Dhruv Rakeshbhai Thakar, Ashish Vishnubhai Patel, and Karan Vishnubhai Patel in connection with the raid conducted on July 17, 2022, at the Sacred Nine Hookah bar area of Ahmedabad. Police had seized 29 varieties of hookahs and the 13 flavour packets and sent them for forensic analysis. Police proceeded with the arrest after the forensic laboratory report was received.
The 29 hookah samples collected were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (F.S.L.) for examination. After the investigation and the analysis, the presence of nicotine was found. Police registered a case under Section 20 of the Tobacco Control Act on 20/08/2022.
As a part of the Gujarat Police’s ongoing initiative to crack down on hookah bars, the Ahmedabad Police had raided Sacred Nine, a hookah bar located in the Bopal area, owned by one Kewal Mahendra Patel and others. The police had detained 68 youngsters along with 29 hookahs.
The raid was carried out under the direction of Deputy Superintendent of Police, State Monitoring Cell G.R. Gandhinagar, KT Kamariya, at Sardar Patel Ring Road, on July 17, 2022, within the Sarkhej police station in Ahmedabad.
In order to figure out whether the 29 varieties of hookahs and the 13 flavour packets used in the bar contain any caffeine, the squad collected 42 samples from 13 varieties and 29 hookahs. FIR was filed on July 18, 2022. Thereafter, the State Monitoring Cell started investigating this matter per the order of the Director General of Police, Gandhinagar.
The accused in this case are hookah bar owners and managers namely Keval Mahendrabhai Patel, Dhruv Rakeshbhai Thakar, Ashish Vishnubhai Patel, and Karan Vishnubhai Patel who were arrested on August 20, 2022.
All top police officers of the state such as Neerja Gotru, IPS, Additional Director General of Police State Monitoring Cell, Nirlipt Rai, IPS, Superintendent of Police, State Monitoring Cell and Ashish Bhatia, Director General of Police, are keeping a watch over the direct or indirect drug menace in the city. The raid on the hookah bar is the result of intimation to the police sources.
