Ahmedabad: One Dead, Over 100 Rescued As Fire Engulfs Iscon Platinum

| Updated: November 16, 2024 15:14

A woman from a high-rise residential apartment in Bopal, Ahmedabad succumbed to burn injuries after a fire engulfed several floors of posh Iscon Platinum Apartment late on Friday night.

Meena Shah lost her life. No other fatalities were reported even as over 100 persons were rescued. A few were sent to nearby hospitals as they suffered breathing difficulties.

Society chairman Dr Kamlesh Vyas told VO! that the fire was a result of short circuit following furniture catching fire due to a lamp placed near it. The fire spread fast in the flat and engulfed other floors. It took several hours for the firefighters to douse the fire.

Residents have called for improved emergency preparedness to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Bopal police inspector B T Gohil told Vibes of India that on getting a message, the police reached the spot and helped the firefighters in executing the operation.

The tragedy has sparked worries about fire safety protocols in high-rise buildings.
