Ahmedabad Metro Gears Up For Fan Rush To Motera

| Updated: October 13, 2023 19:54

Keeping in view fans’ mad rush for the Indo-Pak clash in Motera (Ahmedabad) on October 14, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRCL) is gearing up to run the extra mile and ferry cricket enthusiasts to the stadium in time and comfort.

Between 30,000 to 40,000 additional passengers are predicted to board the metro on the match day to avoid traffic jams and limited parking. Spectators arriving in private vehicles may walk to the stadium. Due to this, dependency on the metro train system will increase.

Additional staff have been deployed at metro stations in anticipation of the influx of spectators.

A GMRCL official stated, “From our IPL match experiences, we’re ready to manage the expected crowd during the India-Pakistan game. Our projections indicate about 40,000 extra passengers for that day.”

To facilitate easier commutes, metro train services have been extended by three hours for all World Cup matches played at the stadium. Specifically, on October 14, trains will operate from 6:20 am to 1 pm, with departures every 12 minutes. Travelers will be able to access the venue from 29 different metro stations.

Prioritising passenger safety, a State Reserve Police (SRP) contingent will be positioned at the metro stations. Rigorous security checks are planned, including exhaustive baggage inspections and a lookout for any suspicious items on the trains.
