A 42-year-old woman, her 23-year-old daughter, and three men were arrested on Thursday for the murder of the woman’s former husband in Ahmedabad, India. The victim, identified as Harshad Rajput, 40, an autorickshaw driver, was allegedly killed on January 17th and his body found abandoned on the outskirts of the city.
The motive behind the killing, according to police, was to put an end to the constant harassment and violence Rajput inflicted upon his ex-wife, Anita Patni, and their daughter, Kajal.
Following the discovery of Rajput’s body, police launched a thorough investigation. An autopsy confirmed strangulation as the cause of death, and a circulated photograph of the deceased led to his identification by a resident of Indiranagar, where both Rajput and Anita resided.
Upon questioning Anita and Kajal, police suspected their involvement in the case. Further interrogation and evidence gathering eventually led to a confession from all five individuals.
Police reports reveal that Anita and Rajput married in 2012. However, the marriage was marred by domestic violence, prompting Anita to file for divorce in 2021. Despite the legal separation, Rajput continued to harass and assault Anita and Kajal at their residence.
The recent arrest of Anita, Kajal, and the three men involved marks a significant development in the case. However, the tragedy also highlights the devastating impact of domestic violence and the desperate measures individuals may resort to when seeking safety and protection.
As the legal proceedings move forward, it is crucial to remember the human cost of this tragedy. Support and resources must be made available to Anita, Kajal, and all individuals affected by this ordeal.
