A man assaulted a woman and her friend, both from from Mizoram, allegedly in a dispute over consuming an octopus dish in Ahmedabad.
Laalrempuii Laldingliana (29), a resident of LK Apartment near Sterling Hospital, filed a complaint with Vastrapur police and named her friend, Prince Chauhan, a resident of Thaltej, as the accused.
The Aizawl native, who runs a grocery store in a mall in Vastrapur, told police that she was at home with Chauhan when her friend, Pavpingia Nono, called and requested for the octopus dish. Laldingliana invited Nono for a meal and asked Chauhan to get some groceries. “Nono and I were preparing the food when Chauhan returned. He saw the dish and refused to eat it. He began abusing us for having octopus,” she told the police.
When the 29-year-old asked him to pipe down, he allegedly began beating her. “Nono tried to rescue me, but Chauhan began punching her. He hit her on the head with a brick, causing her to bleed profusely,” she added.
Hearing the cries of the two women, the neighbours rushed to their rescue while Chauhan fled the spot. Nono was admitted to a private hospital, where she was diagnosed with multiple fractures to her nose and face.
After a medico-legal case was filed, Vastrapur police lodged a complaint of using abusive words, causing grievous hurt, endangering human life and criminal intimidation against Chauhan.
