Smuggling Spree Continues in Gujarat Ahead of New Year’s Eve
As New Year’s Eve approaches, liquor smugglers in Gujarat are resorting to increasingly innovative tactics to evade authorities. Following the recent bust of liquor smuggling in an acid tanker near Bavla, another attempt to smuggle liquor using gas tankers has been foiled by the Ahmedabad Police.
Police Intercept Gas Tanker Carrying 11268 Bottles of Liquor
Acting on a tip-off, a team of State Monitoring Cell intercepted a gas tanker bearing the Hindustan Petroleum logo on Hatijan Ring Road. Upon inspection, a staggering 11268 bottles of foreign liquor, estimated to be worth Rs. 41.78 lakhs, were discovered hidden inside the tanker.
Driver Arrested, Masterminds Declared Wanted
The driver of the tanker, identified as Bhupat Meghwal, was immediately arrested. Initial investigations revealed that the liquor was being transported from Rajasthan to Maharashtra, with the final destination being Rajkot in Gujarat. However, thanks to the timely intervention of the police, the shipment was intercepted before it reached its intended destination.
Police Net Closes in on Liquor Smuggling Ring
Following Meghwal’s arrest, the police declared two key figures wanted in the case. Mukesh, the individual who arranged the transport of the liquor, and the intended recipient in Rajkot, who had placed the order, are now being actively pursued by the authorities.
Second Bust in Two Days Highlights Growing Trend
This incident marks the second major bust of liquor smuggling in gas tankers within two days. Just yesterday, a joint operation by the PCB and Bavla police team near Dhedar Bridge resulted in the seizure of foreign liquor worth Rs. 35.51 lakhs, concealed in another gas tanker. Interrogation of the driver revealed that this shipment was also destined for a Rajkot-based bootlegger.
Authorities Remain Vigilant in Crackdown on Liquor Smuggling
These back-to-back busts highlight the growing trend of liquor smugglers utilizing gas tankers to bypass law enforcement. However, the Ahmedabad Police is determined to crack down on such illegal activities and has intensified its efforts to prevent smuggling attempts.
The police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to liquor smuggling. Information provided by the community can play a crucial role in assisting authorities in their fight against this illegal trade.
With New Year’s Eve just around the corner, it is likely that liquor smuggling attempts will continue. The Ahmedabad Police has assured the public that it is prepared to tackle such challenges and maintain a safe and secure environment for all citizens during the festive season.
