Three Class 9 girl students of the prestigious St Xavier’s School, Loyola, Ahmedabad have gathered the courage to come forward and complain about the inappropriate behaviour of their physical education teacher which took place one and a half months ago.
The girls have accused the 38-year-old PT teacher of sending them inappropriate and objectionable messages on Instagram Direct Message. They alleged that he asked the girls to meet him alone while sending them objectionable reels. The reels and messages were deleted from the DMs, they alleged.
The girls reiterated their concern on Friday after having first complained on Wednesday as the school management did not initiate any probe. After the reminder of the girls, the in-charge principal Jasmine Shaji acted and warned the PT teacher, associated with the school since long. The management also decided to conduct a probe. The PT teacher has been associated with the school for a long time.
The complaint is only verbal so far but the management is shocked as it involves the reputation of a prestigious school and
challenges the sanctity of the teacher-student relationship.
Father Francis Macwan, the manager of the school and Shaji the principal said they did not know if in the past similar allegations were made against the PT teachers they bother are new in their posts.
The management said “There is no intention of hiding details or shielding anyone. We have to probe allegations carefully and so we have decided to form a committee to probe the incident, check the validity of the allegations and take action if we find the allegations to be true.”
The management insisted that they sensitise all staff about appropriate behaviour with students on one hand and inform them about POCSO and other related laws.
