The Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad Metro rail service has carried around 19,600 people in a week since it launched. Based on initial figures, the daily metro traffic for the week varied from 1,840 to 5,460 people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the service as part of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase II on September 16 and it started for the public on September 17.
According to station-wise data, approximately 8,220 passengers travelled from Gandhinagar Sector 1 station, 2,680 from GNLU metro station, 2,500 from PDPU station, 2,620 from Infocity, 2,300 from Dhaulkuva, and 1,360 from GIFT City.
This figure reflects a positive response to the metro rail service between the two cities, particularly given the limited number of rides currently available and the service running until around 6 pm. The frequency and operating hours are expected to increase at a later stage. It’s important to mention that not all metro stations along the routes opened on 17 September.
