The city authorities have finally decided to cover its solid waste collection centers, starting with those under construction. This initiative, aimed at curbing the spread of dust and ensuring cleaner air, will initially see about 15 centers equipped with a complete cover. The proposal, currently in its preliminary stage, will be presented to the Standing Committee for approval.
Four-sided covering: Sheets will be installed on all four sides of the debris collection centers, effectively creating a contained space. Showers and sprinklers: A network of showers and sprinklers will be installed inside the covered centers to regularly dampen the dust and soil brought in from construction sites. Water drainage system: A well-planned drainage system will be implemented to collect and soak the water used for dust suppression, preventing any overflow or environmental concerns.
Ahmedabad residents, long plagued by the dust generated from construction activities, have welcomed this decision with open arms. This initiative is expected to significantly improve air quality, especially in areas surrounding construction sites.
