Despite the ban on narcotics in Gujarat, illicit substances continue to be trafficked and once again, banned drugs have been seized in Ahmedabad. The Ahmedabad Crime Branch recently intercepted a significant consignment of ganja, valued at ₹3.50 crore.
Authorities from the Ahmedabad city crime branch and customs department remain vigilant, closely monitoring the evolving tactics employed by drug networks across the country. Routine surveillance revealed that traffickers are increasingly using the dark web and social media platforms to transport narcotics across borders. In response, a joint team was swiftly assembled to intercept suspicious courier parcels.
A total of 58 parcels raised suspicion during investigations led by the Ahmedabad City DOG Skod. Among these, 11.601 kg of ganja was discovered, with an international market value of ₹3,48,03,000. Additionally, 60 bottles of liquid ganja were recovered, valued at ₹72,000 in the international market. The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch and DCB have registered a case related to this matter.
The seized ganja originated from America and arrived via the post office. Parcels from America, Canada and the UK all reached Ahmedabad. Notably, residents of Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara were among those ordering ganja. The crime branch’s investigation has exposed the entire racket involved in this illegal trade. Just 20 days ago, a similar suspicious parcel was intercepted at the Shahibagh post office in Ahmedabad.
Ahmedabad Police said that this new modus operandi has been adopted by criminal elements, in which narcotics including ganja are sold in different items such as Baby Booties, Baby Diaper Outlet Plugs, Teether Toys, Toy Jet Planes, Toy Trucks, Toy tools kits, Spider-Man Balls, Story Books, Photo Frames, Chocolates, Gentlemen’s Jackets, Ladies’ Dresses, GINO’S PIZZA, Lunchboxes, Vitamin Candies, Speakers and Antique Bags.
