| Updated: January 6, 2025 21:14

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has arrested a gang involved in targeting elderly women, luring them into autorickshaws under the pretext of offering a ride. Once inside, the accused distracted the victims and used cutters to steal their gold jewellery before dropping them off at various locations.

The arrested individuals include Salman Khan alias Sayhu Chumkhan Pathan, 23, an autorickshaw driver from Mahemdavad, Kheda district; Vikrambhai Chimanbhai Dantani, 27, a labourer from the same area; and Asha Bhen alias Janu, 36, a labourer from near the railway station, Mahemdavad.

The arrests occurred during a crime branch patrol near Geeta mandir, and the Three Roads area in the city.

Recovered items include nine gold bangles, one gold chain, and the stolen autorickshaw valued at Rs 2,00,000. An iron cutter was also seized. The total value of the stolen jewellery is Rs 8,14,000.

The crime branch has solved nine theft cases linked to the suspects, with these incidents being registered at several police stations, including Ranip, Vasna, Wadaj, Naranpura, Ghatlodiya, Vejalpur, and Maninagar.

Those arrested are history-sheeters

The suspects have a history of criminal activity. Salman Khan was previously arrested in a case at Sabarmati Police Station, while Vikram Dantani had been apprehended in cases at both Sabarmati and Paldi police stations. Asha Bhen had also been arrested earlier in a case at Mansa Police Station.

Investigations are ongoing as the crime branch continues its efforts to uncover further details about the gang’s activities.
