A school karate teacher accused of sexually harassing minors at an Ahmedabad school was denied bail by a city sessions court on December 19. The court, emphasizing the protection of children, stated that bail should not be granted in such cases. The 20-year-old accused faces charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections for showing pornography to minors, allegedly during karate lessons with girls aged 10 and 12.
The court, presided over by a special Pocso judge, highlighted the accused’s failure to fulfill teaching duties and expressed concern about the potential adverse effects on the minors’ careers and psychology. The judge noted the severe trauma suffered by victims, emphasizing the profound impact on a child’s normal growth and overall existence.
Considering that 31 parents filed complaints against the accused for showing obscene videos to their minor children, and recognizing the gravity of the offense, the court refused bail. Additionally, the court considered pending statements from students, the need to probe the accused’s seized mobile phone for alleged videos, and the ongoing investigation and chargesheet filing.
