The police have a general image of being dour, cold, and stripped of emotions. But an Ahmedabad police constable has set an example of empathy and helpfulness.
Police constable Dayaben Jitubhai, on duty as part of the security arrangement for the Gujarat High Court peon recruitment examination held at Sheth RT New High School in Odhav, Ahmedabad, has won hearts with a rare gesture.
A female examinee arrived at the centre with a six-month-old baby at about 9:45 am, with a request that her child be allowed inside the hall. Dayaben explained that the rules didn’t permit it.
As time was ticking by — the exam was supposed to start at 10 AM — she offered to take care of the baby while the mother wrote the paper.
The cop comforted the howling baby until 12:30 pm, while guarding the centre. Her colleague captured the moment, sending it to a higher official.
The pictures went viral and soon she became the talk on social media.
They have been viewed over 1.4 lakh times. The images received over 2,800 likes and a stream of heartwarming comments.
According to a report, Vikas Sahay, DG and IGP of Gujarat, handed over an appreciation letter to her.
