| Updated: November 19, 2024 16:26

Renowned Lucky Restaurant in the Lal Darwaza area was fined Rs 10,000 by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Monday for maintaining unhygienic kitchen conditions. This action was part of a broader initiative by the AMC to combat public littering and unhygienic practices across the city, which also saw the sealing of nine outlets.

Lucky Restaurant is well-known for its well-liked food, spacious seating and the exposed gravestones and burial sarcophagi that the tables are arranged around.

The sealed outlets include KFC Gota, SG Highway; Sharma Pan Parlour, Gota; La Pino’z, Chandlodia; Ardha Shakti Motors, Chandlodia; Krishna Metric Works, Ghatlodia; Jai Ambe Tea Stall, Subhash Circle; Ashok Pan Parlour, Panjarapol; Baker Stand, IIM Road; and Ashok Pan Parlour, Mithakhali.

The action against Lucky Restaurant followed a complaint filed by Jashwantsinh Vaghela, Chairman of the National Consumer Protection Agency.

Vaghela had reported unhygienic conditions in the kitchen to the AMC’s health department, citing that workers were seen operating without wearing haircaps or gloves. Samples of food items, including Maska bun, have been sent to the municipal laboratory for testing.

The AMC’s Solid Waste Management Department conducted inspections at 300 units in West Ahmedabad, issuing notices to 240 of them.

In the Northwest Zone, 121 units were inspected and 62 were served notices. Additionally, the civic body seized 4.5 kg of banned plastic and collected fines totalling Rs 74,000.

In the West Zone, 178 units were served notices, resulting in fines amounting to Rs 1.41 lakh.
