In the case involving the alleged suicide of Darshan Solanki, a student from Ahmedabad at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, the police on Tuesday filed a charge sheet against a fellow student.
According to a source in the prosecution, a chargesheet against Arman Khatri was submitted to a Mumbai special court for instances under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Khatri is currently out on bail.
On February 12, 2023, a day after the end of the semester exams, Solanki, a first-year student of the B Tech (Chemical) programme from Ahmedabad, allegedly died by suicide when he jumped from the seventh storey of a dormitory building on the IIT Bombay campus in the nearby neighbourhood of Powai.
A Mumbai police special investigation team discovered a one-line note from Solanki’s room three weeks later that read: “Arman has killed me.” Khatri allegedly threatened to kill Darshan with a paper cutter after the latter spoke ‘offensively’ about religion, according to the police.
