Along with other preparations, Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport is also fast gearing up for the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) 2024, with both domestic and international terminals undergoing major upgrades.
The Terminal 1 arrival walkway, which became operational last week, will enable smooth passenger movement towards the pick-up, drop and parking areas, sources said.
“The arrival hall at the domestic terminal was opened recently, and three baggage belts have also been added to the existing three to ensure more baggage is handled simultaneously and to avoid delays in exiting the airport,” they added.
A retail plaza will also come up around the arrival walkway area by the end of this year. Apparel, electronic stores along with food and beverage outlets will adorn the plaza.
One of the busiest airports in the country, SVPI Airport has witnessed a footfall of some 32,000 passengers daily over the past couple of months, which is much lesser than normal figures because of the lean travel period induced by the ongoing monsoon season.
With upcoming VGGS 2024, passenger traffic is expected to go up, including through scheduled commercial and non-scheduled aircrafts.
An airport source said that Terminal 2 for international flights, too, was undergoing major renovations.
“A new arrival hall will soon open in Terminal-2, which will increase space, accommodate more passengers and prevent long queues at customs and immigration counters,” the source said.
Both terminals are also witnessing expansion of the security hold area.
