Prior to the Prime Minister visit to Mumbai, large cutouts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and his Deputy Devendra Fadnavis appeared outside the former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s residence, as per media report.

The ruling BJP said that PM Modi’s Thursday visit will boost their morale and help in setting up a “favourable pitch” for the BJP and the Shinde-led Babasahebanchi Shiv Sena for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, which are overdue.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Mumbai on Thursday to lay the foundation stone of various infrastructure projects and inaugurate two Metro lines in the metropolis. PM Modi will also lay the foundation stones for two hospitals, and a new sewerage treatment plant in Mumbai to prevent the mixing of sewage water into the sea.

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Mumbai for the first time since the Eknath Shinde-led government was elected with the help of the BJP. During his visit, the PM is expected to address a public rally at the Bandra Kurla Complex.

Meanwhile, the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena and BJP are eyeing control over the cash-rich civic body of Mumbai which is currently being governed by an administrator since its term ended in March last year.
