The Ministry of Home Affairs announced that all Afghan nationals must travel to India only on e-Visa on Wednesday. In an official statement, the Centre said that owing to the prevailing security situation in Afghanistan and the visa process streamlined by the introduction of the e-Emergency X-Misc visa, e-Visa has been made mandatory for Afghan nationals travelling to India.
Keeping in view some reports that certain passports of Afghan nationals have been misplaced, previously issued visas to all Afghan nationals, who are presently not in India, stand invalidated with immediate effect, the government of India said.
The government stated that all previously issued visas to Afghan nationals, not presently in India, stand invalidated with immediate effect, keeping in view that reports suggest that certain passports of Afghan nationals have been misplaced.
The government release also declared that Afghan nationals who wish to travel to India might apply for an e-Visa at the visa application portal.
Earlier this month, MHA introduced a new category, ‘e-Emergency X-Misc visa’ of e-Visa to fast-track and streamline the visa process given the current situation in Afghanistan.
“Such a visa may be granted only with a single entry and for the specific duration, taking into account the purpose of visit,” the MHA policy on the X-Misc visa mentioned.
