Going into the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP may already have its tails up, with the Congress abandoning the January 22 ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony in Ayodhya for the Ram Temple.
The Congress’s decision only serves to support the BJP’s accusation that the Grand Old Party is not in sync with the majority Hindu community during a period of intense religious fervour. Should this be the public sentiment, it wouldn’t bode well for Congress and INDIA’s chances in the Lok Sabha elections.
According to media reports, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra never visited the Ram Temple when they went to Ayodhya. Rahul was the first member of the Gandhi family to go to Ayodhya in 2016 since the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992. Even then, he visited the Hanumangarhi temple and not the Ram Temple.
Reports added that Priyanka Gandhi did the same during her first visit to Ayodhya four years ago. The January 22 invite allowed Sonia Gandhi to make a change, but she turned it down.
According to News18.com, the decision of the Gandhi family might not go down well with INDIA and Congress workers. Party leaders in Uttar Pradesh are reportedly unhappy with the stance of the Gandhi family.
Further, the report mentions that Himachal Pradesh’s Vikramaditya Singh has announced plans to visit Ayodhya on January 22. Congress officials in Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh were to celebrate the anniversary on January 22. AAP is looking forward to receiving an invitation to the Ayodhya event.
Congress’s decision also indicates how a certain segment of the party is perceived as predominantly Leftist. Rahul Gandhi’s choice to begin his Yatra on January 14—before the Ram Temple event—and to forego Ayodhya while passing through numerous other UP cities is evidence of the mindset that currently permeates Congress doctrine. A third defeat looms this year, and nobody should be surprised.
