Indian billionaire Gautam Adani has surpassed Bill Gates to take the fourth spot on World’s Richest People List in Forbes. It happened recently after Bill Gates announced a donation of $20 billion from his wealth to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
As Bill Gates holds the fifth position, Forbes’ Real-Time Ranking of World Billionaires estimates his net worth as $102 billion. On the other hand, Gautam Adani and their family stand in the fourth position with a net worth of $114 billion.
Earlier last week, Bill Gates gave out a statement stating that he will be donating $20 billion to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation this month as the philanthropic behemoth plans to speed up its pace of giving. “I hope by giving more, we can mitigate some of the suffering people are facing right now and help fulfil the foundation’s vision to give every person the chance to live a healthy and productive life,” said Gates.
He further explained in his blog, “Through Breakthrough Energy, I will continue to invest and give money to address climate change. Overall I expect that the work in these areas will make money, which will also go to the foundation. I will move down and eventually off of the list of the world’s richest people.”
Elon Musk Sits on the top of the Forbes list, with a $230 billion net worth, followed by Bernard Arnault of Louis Vuitton at the second spot and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos at third. With an estimated net worth of $88 billion, Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries (RIL) in India is ranked tenth on the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires list.
The surge in his wealth has given him the world’s top wealth-gainer this year, Adani surpassed fellow countryman Ambani to grab Asia’s richest position in February of this year.
Since early 2021, the Indian tycoon’s wealth has more than doubled, reaching $112.9 billion today. The infrastructure mogul Adani has ownership interests in firms bearing his name that work in the electricity, green energy, gas, ports, and other industries. Adani plans to invest up to $70 billion in renewable energy projects in order to become the greatest green energy generator in the world.
