Accused in Surat Gang-Rape Case Dies in Hospital Amid Ongoing Investigation

| Updated: October 10, 2024 18:39

In the gang rape case involving a minor in the Mangrol area of Surat, where a 17-year-old was brutally assaulted by three men during the Navratri celebrations, one of the two accused arrested by police in Tadkeshwar village died on Thursday.

The deceased, Shiv Shankar, also known as Dayashankar Chourasiya, was taken to the New Civil Hospital for a forensic examination related to the case.

While receiving treatment there, he experienced a severe breathing problem and subsequently died due to this complication.

Notably, in this case, when the minor and her friend were walking on the outskirts of Mota Borsara village on October 4, they came across the three accused—Shiv Shankar, Munna Paswan, and their third accomplice—who arrived at the location on a motorcycle.

The attackers robbed the victim’s friend of all his belongings and assaulted him, while the victim was kidnapped and taken to a remote location. There, she was subjected to horrific gang rape by the three men.

Somehow, the victim’s friend, who had been held captive by the accused, managed to escape and hurried to seek help from the villagers in Mota Borsara. As a large crowd of locals assembled, the perpetrators fled the scene. The villagers then informed the police.

With the assistance of a dog squad, a number of police officers, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Hitesh Joysar and Range Inspector General (IG) Prem Vir Singh, hurried to the scene and found the accused’s bike.

As a result, the two were captured by the investigating authorities from Tadkeshwar in the case.
