An RTO Inspector and his associate were arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) for demanding and accepting a bribe from an auto advisor in Palanpur today.
The auto advisor, who works in the office of an auto consultant, had to visit the RTO office frequently for various works related to his clients’ vehicles, such as name change. He alleged that the RTO Inspector, Ankit Panchal, and his associate, Bharat Patel, asked him to pay Rs. 11,700/- as a bribe for clearing some bill, otherwise they would stall his work. He refused to pay the bribe and approached the ACB with a complaint. The ACB set up a trap and caught Patel red-handed while taking the bribe. He also confessed that he was acting on behalf of Panchal, who was in touch with him over the phone.
The ACB arrested both the accused and booked them under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
