Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Gujarat President Gopal Italia today slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for attacking and detaining his party’s leaders and activists yesterday in Surat. He said that AAP would go to court if they did not get proper justice from the police. He insisted that those who attacked AAP’s people must pay for their violent misconduct.
Italia’s comments come after he was released from jail this morning. Following the scuffle between the BJP and AAP workers and leaders, Assistant Sub-Inspector Dharmendra Jhala of Udhna Police station filed a complaint against 16 leaders of AAP. Italia and Ram Dhaduk were booked under Sections 143, 145, 146, 147 of the Indian Penal Code for unlawful gathering, trespassing and provoking clashes. Mathur Baldadiya, Shravan Joshi, Jagendra Singh Rathod were also arrested and sent behind bars.
Yesterday, Gopal Italia posted a tweet, showcasing injured members of the party that had to be taken to the hospitals for treatment. Writing in Gujarati, he said, “Former bootlegger of BJP, the party of goons and scoundrels – no matter how much you persecute, FIR, beat up intoxicated with power, we are not afraid of corrupt BJP. Every FIR boosts our morale and every persecution gives us the courage to fight this battle more vigorously. We will continue to fight for the masses.”
Speaking of BJP resorting to violence, Italia said that AAP was only conducting peaceful protest and it did not mean they were intervening or trespassing. He said that BJP attacked AAP leaders and many were outnumbered and seriously injured.
