Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party met Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation employees who attempted suicide as they sensed livelihood insecurity from outsourcing.
According to sources, these sweepers resisted outsourcing by Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation and protested for 108 days. It is understood that they were fed up with the false assurances of the BJP. Of these, three employees attempted suicide yesterday by consuming poisonous drug. Fortunately, all of them were saved.
AAP Gandhinagar corporator Tushar Parikh along with other office bearers reached Gandhinagar Civil
Hospital and met employees who had attempted suicide. Expressing solidarity with the employees, the AAP said that it stands with them and supports them.
It is noteworthy that the employees working on contract in Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation had been agitating for nearly four months. They had previously called off their protest on assurances by BJP leaders. Since their demands were not met, these workers were compelled to take an extreme step.
