The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has appointed Gopal Rai as the state in charge of the party’s Gujarat unit, while Pankaj Gupta will oversee party’s activities in Goa. Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has been appointed as the state in charge of Punjab.
AAP Gujarat chief Isudan Gadhvi expressed his optimism and said, “Heartiest congratulations to Gopal Rai on being appointed as the in-charge of Gujarat. He did an excellent job as the Delhi State President and continued his remarkable work as a State Minister. His appointment as Gujarat’s in-charge will bring new energy to the party workers in the state.”
On his new role, Sisodia said, “There has been a lot of development in Punjab after the formation of our government in the state. The AAP government will continue to work for the welfare of the people of Punjab and will ensure that every dedicated worker of the AAP feels proud to be a part of the party. The people of Punjab respect Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann a lot.”
The Aam Aadmi Party has also appointed former Delhi Minister and ex-MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj as the state chief of its Delhi unit, replacing Gopal Rai.
Bharadwaj will be responsible for formulating political strategies to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Delhi government.
Following his appointment, Bharadwaj stated that his primary focus would be to expand the party’s organisation. “Our first priority will be to expand the party organisation. Elections will come and go,” he said.
The appointments were made following a meeting of the AAP Political Affairs Committee (PAC) at the residence of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal. The reshuffle comes after the party’s defeat in the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections, where the BJP secured a two-thirds majority, winning 48 out of 70 seats.
AAP’s tally dropped significantly to 22 seats from its previous 62.
Delhi Leader of Opposition and AAP MLA Atishi congratulated Bharadwaj on his new role. In a post on social media platform X, she wrote, “Many congratulations to Saurabh Bharadwaj on becoming the state president of Delhi.”
Additionally, AAP MP Sandeep Pathak announced that he has been appointed as the in-charge of the Chhattisgarh unit. He also confirmed that Jammu and Kashmir AAP MLA Mehraj Malik will lead the party’s J&K unit.
“Today, various decisions were taken in the party’s Political Affairs Committee meeting. Gopal Rai has been made in charge of Gujarat. Pankaj Gupta has been made in charge of Goa. Manish Sisodia has been made in charge of Punjab and I have been made in charge of Chhattisgarh. Saurabh Bharadwaj has been appointed as the chief of the party’s Delhi unit and Mehraj Malik has been appointed as the chief of the party’s J&K unit,” Pathak said.
