An ‘occasional drinker’ who would ‘down an entire bottle when he drank’, till he decided to kick it once and for all – actor-director-producer Aamir Khan’s recent statement to the press was not on any of his films, but on his alcohol habit.
Aamir recently opened up on giving up alcohol, and also on his take on religion and spirituality. Not many are aware that Aamir is now a full-blown teetotaller. Aamir described himself as someone who used to drink occasionally but has now given it up completely. Back in the day, alcoholism in India was one of the subjects on his reality show, Satyameva Jayate.
Despite being an occasional drinker, Aamir admitted that whenever he did drink, he would always down the entire bottle, which seemed inappropriate to him. “When a person is intoxicated, he/she loses control and is prone to saying things that one would regret later,” Aamir explained, stating that while nothing major like that had happened to him, the fact that a person is no longer in control of oneself did not “sit okay” with him.
Khan also stated that despite not doing anything explicitly spiritual, he does consider himself to be a spiritual person. Religion, he said, was a crucial concept to escape from reality, especially if one is born and brought up in a country like India or in an Indian household.
The actor will be next seen in Laal Singh Chaddha.
