Gujarat recorded 24,485 coronavirus cases – a rise of 17% from yesterday’s tally of 20,966 – and 13 deaths in the last 24 hours. With 13 Covid-19 fatalities, one of the highest tolls in a single day in recent months, the number of deaths climbed to 10,199 in Gujarat, the state health department said in a release.
The 13 people who succumbed to the infection were from Ahmedabad (7), Surat (2), Jamnagar (1), Gandhinagar (1), Kheda (1) and Rajkot (1). Besides 13 deaths, as many as 156 patients are on ventilator support. The state had recorded over 60 deaths in 20 days of January.
With today’s update of daily cases, the state’s active cases tally went up to 1,04,888. No details on Omicron infections were provided in past two weeks. The state health minister said as it is suspected that 70-80% of the daily Covid cases are Omicron infections, there is no longer a need for differentiation.
Yet again, Ahmedabad city remained the biggest contributor with 9,837 – a rise of 17% from yesterday’s 8,391cases. At present, Ahmedabad is seeing the highest weekly TPR at nearly 25%, followed by Vadodara at 23.80%, Gandhinagar 19.16% and Bharuch 15%, as reported by the Indian Express.

India recorded 3,17,532 new Covid cases in last 24 hours, the highest in 249 days and 12.2% higher than yesterday’s reported 2.82 lakh daily cases, according to the Health Ministry.
491 people have died due to Covid during the same period, taking the total death count in the country due to the infection to 487,693.
The country’s total caseload since the pandemic began currently stands at 3,82,18,773. This includes 9,287 cases of the Omicron variant. The active caseload currently stands at 19,24,051.
The active cases now comprise 4.83% of the total infections, while the national coronavirus recovery rate has decreased to 93.9%
