NCC is now made a General Elective Credit Course under the Choice Based Credit System course for the students of colleges affiliated to the University of Ladakh after getting a nod from VC Shri Chewang Phunchok. This comes after a number of meetings held between VC of the University of Ladakh and officials of NCC Directorate Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh, Srinagar NCC Group Commander, and CO and Administrative Officer of Leh NCC Battalion.
The NCC will be a credit course with an intention to transform NCC training into curricular activity from an extra-curricular activity and provide the academic credits to students for the same. The University of Ladakh for Senior Division adopted a syllabus for NCC training and it will be covered in 300 periods over three years duration with six semesters along with two camps of 10 days each.
On successful completion, students will be awarded credit points to enable them as qualified for their respective degrees. The decision is in consonance with the National Education Policy where students can select their choice of subjects rather than being confined to only those being offered by the institutions. Notably, UT of Jammu and Kashmir, the Central University of Jammu and the University of Kashmir have already incorporated NCC as General Elective Credit Course under the Choice Based Credit System in their curriculum.
