For common people the pandemic has worsened the situation but for the world’s richest men it brought more wealth. Everyday 21,000 people died due to poverty and the rich just went richer, doubling their fortunes.
At the start of the World Economic Forum meeting held at Davos, Oxfam generally publishes a report on inequality all over the world and many business and political leaders, celebrities, campaigners attend the event. But this year it has been held online due to the surge in Omicron cases across globe. Among the top points, to be discussed this year, are going to be that of vaccine equity, likely or upcoming future goals, and energy transitions.
As per the reports there are new billionaires emerging everyday during the pandemic, whereas 99 per cent of the world’s population are worse off because of lockdowns and covid protocols. Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Bernard Arnault and his family, Bill Gates, Larry Ellison, Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Ballmer and Warren Buffet are among the wealthiest men. Their integrated wealth boosted to $ 1.5 trillion from $ 700 billion. Bill Gates’ fortune increased by only 30 per cent but Musk’s fortune surpassed 1000 per cent.
