The new council of ministers is the youngest ever yet in the history of the Indian parliament. The average age is 58 years and 14 are under 50 years of age. July 7th was a day of new beginnings for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, which underwent a mega cabinet expansion. In what the country witnessed, 43 leaders took the oath as ministers, and a closer look will reveal that the leaders are young.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Darbar Hall at Rashtrapati Bhavan in front of President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and other stalwarts.
Leaders aged 40 and below:
Nisith Pramanik is the youngest of the leaders who were sworn in on Wednesday. This 35-years-old Lok Sabha MP for Cooch Behar in West Bengal is serving his first term. He was primary school teacher and is now the Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Minister of State in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Shantanu Thakur is a 38-years-old Lok Sabha MP for Bongaon in West Bengal, serving his first term. A leader of the Matua community, Thakur is now the Minister of State in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
Anupriya Singh Patel is 40-years-old is a Lok Sabha MP from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, serving her second term. Before joining politics, Patel was a professor with the Amity University. She has also served as the Union Minister of State of Health under PM Narendra Modi. Patel is now the Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Leaders of the age 50 and below:
Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar is a 42-years-old Lok Sabha MP from Dindori in Maharashtra. This is her first term, and before joining politics was a full-time Medical Practitioner. Dr Pawar is now the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

John Barla is a 45-years-old Lok Sabha MP for Alipurdaurs in West Bengal. Barla comes from a humble background of tea garden workers. Serving his first term as MP, he is now the Minister of State in the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
Smriti Zubin Irani is 43-years-old and a Minister in the Union Cabinet of India and is now the Minister of Women and Child Development, serving her second term since 2019
Anurag Singh Thakur is 46-years-old and is now Minister of Information and Broadcasting and Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports
Kailash Choudhary is 47-years-old and is now the Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare
Kiren Rijiju is a 49-years-old Minister of Law and Justice
