Gujarat Covid Update: Vadodara Logs 7 New Omicron Cases, State Tally Reaches 668

Gujarat on Thursday reported seven cases of the new Covid variant Omicron in the last 24 hours, taking the state tally to 30, the office of state health minister Rushikesh Patel confirmed. All of the new cases were reported in Vadodara, of which three are under the age of 16.

The vaccination status of four adults – aged 61 (woman), 39 (man), 29 (man) and 26 (woman) — is yet to be revealed by the state health officials. “Anyone who had come in contact with the patients has been kept in home quarantine,” a state health official told Vibes of India (VoI).

The active Omicron case tally in the state is 25 post-discharge of five patients – three from Jamnagar, one from Surat and one from Gandhinagar.

After today’s update, Vadodara has 10 active cases of the Omicron variant, Ahmedabad has seven, Mehsana and Anand have three cases respectively, and Rajkot and Surat have one respectively.

Meanwhile, Gujarat recorded 111 Covid-19 cases and two deaths – one each in Anand and Bhavnagar city — in the last 24 hours. The total active cases in the state stand at 668, while 12 patients are on ventilator support.

India reported 7,495 fresh Covid-19 cases today, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data. With this, the country’s caseload reached 3,47,65,976. India’s active caseload currently stands at 78,291, going up by 101 active cases today.

The country also reported 434 new Covid-related deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the total death count to 4,78,759. The number of fatalities today is up from yesterday’s spike of 318 deaths.
