Collapsed Under-Construction Bridge In Ahmedabad: The Same Company Is Having Contracts For 16 Bridges On Bullet Train Route

Ahmedabad-based company Ranjit Buildcon which is building an overbridge at Mumatpura at South Bopal in Ahmedabad where a part collapsed late Tuesday night is also the company which has work orders for building 16 bridges on the ambitious Bullet train route and Phase II of Ahmedabad Metro, it is revealed.

Part of The overbridge in Ahmedabad where construction work was going on had collapsed after a slab fell through during an in-situ stressing exercise. No injuries or fatalities were reported. However, the schedule is expected to be delayed by three to four months.

Ranjit Buildcon, the company which was building the collapsed bridge where not a single vehicle was yet passed through is having the contracts worth Rs. 1200 crores for building elevated corridors of phase II of Ahmedabad metro and 16 bridges on India’s first bullet train route.

Chief executive authority of Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) AB Gor has said that the authority has written a letter to the Roads and Buildings Department to depute a team, assisted by AUDA team to investigate the cause of the slab, however none of the other works by the company are stopped for reexamination. The company’s ongoing works are Rs.417 crore Metro Phase II for 6.478 km elevated corridor and upcoming metro route from Motera to Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar and 5.42 km side road between GNLU Station to Gift City.

Ranjit Bulidcon has also bagged the work orders for the Bullet train project between the Ahmedabad to Dadra Nagar haveli stretch for Rs. 811 crores.

As per Auda officials, Prima facie, there was no design or structural flaw in the design approved by the roads and buildings department but somehow bridge has collapsed. It remains to be seen if the authorities and experts will deem it fit to halt the ongoing works of the Company to reverify the loopholes if any which caused the bridge collapse at Bopal.
