Every year, Google comes out with its ‘Year in Search’ list, reflecting the top queries being asked in each country, and the 2021 list is as intriguing as ever. Interestingly, a tough math problem made it to India’s list: what is the factorial of 100? This was the second most searched query on Google for this year, following black fungus – the infection that ravaged the country as it battled the second Covid wave.
Other top queries included ‘What is Taliban’, ‘What is happening in Afghanistan’ and ‘What is remdesivir’, among others. The IPL, the Cowin website, Neeraj Chopra, and Aryan Khan all made the list too.
Fittingly, there were several vaccine queries, from ‘Where to get the vaccine’, ‘Covid vaccine near me’, ‘How to register for Covid vaccine’ and the sad queries – ‘Covid hospital near me’, ‘oxygen cylinder near me’ and ‘Covid test near me’ among others.
Finally, among the more mundane recipe queries (chicken soup, lasagna, methi mutter malai and cookies) there was the intriguing ‘Porn Star Martini’. Cheers to that, India.
