Gujarat reported one more case of Omicron infection from Surat on Monday, taking the total in the State to four.
Official sources confirmed that a 42-year-old man from Surat who had travelled to South Africa and Abu Dhabi had tested positive for Covid-19 days after landing in the city on December 2.
The man, who is a diamond trader and frequently travels abroad for business, lives in Devjinagar locality at Ashwini Kumar Road, tested positive for coronavirus on December 7 and his samples were sent for genome sequencing the next day.
Officials said he was found to be infected by the Omicron variant. He is under home isolation, stable and is asymptomatic. Samples of four of his family members have also been taken and the reports are awaited.

Earlier, an NRI from Zimbabwe, his wife and brother-in-law were found to be infected with the Omicron variant and they are reported to be stable.
Meanwhile, Gujarat reported 58 new Covid-19 cases during the last 24 hours as on Monday while 56 patients were discharged, according to the State Health Department’s daily Covid bulletin.
Ahmedabad had the highest 18 positive cases, followed by Vadodara with 12 and Bhavnagar 5. Surat city did not report a single Covid-19 case during the last 24 hours as of Monday.
