The maximum number of IAS officers selected from the UPSC in India is from one of the most populous state of the country – Uttar Pradesh, followed by Bihar and Jharkhand.
A total of 5255 IAS officers have been posted in India from 1951 to 2020.
If we take a look at the percentage of top five states, Uttar Pradesh is considered to be the top state in the country. The country has so far got a total of 15.8% IAS officers from Uttar Pradesh followed by Bihar and Jharkhand with a total of 10.7% . This percentage is the highest compared to other states.
While from Gujarat, the country has got only 1.2 per cent IAS officers, which is a very small percentage of the total. Even though the people of Gujarat are at the forefront of trade, they lag far behind many other states in the country in providing officers like IAS.
Delhi comes third. The country has got 8% of the total IAS officers from New Delhi. Rajasthan ranks fourth. The country has got 7.5% IAS officers from Rajasthan. Tamil Nadu ranks fifth with 6.8% of IAS officers. These five states have made the biggest contribution in enriching the IAS officer.
Goa, on the other hand, is one of the lagging states in terms of IAS officers with 0.02% IAS officers, Andaman and Nicobar has 0.02% IAS officers.
