| Updated: December 12, 2021 09:05

A boat owner has informed the police that he has found two suspicious pigeons with ring like device on their legs. Smit Gohil, the Deputy Superintendent of Police at Porbandar informed that the devices will be removed and sent to the FSL for testing.

The boat owner has informed that a person working on his boat had found the pigeons. The fishermen from the coastal villages of Gujarat leave for their fishing trip of 7 to 15 days in the Arabian sea during the fishing season which is 8 months during the year barring four months or so of monsoon period. Pakistan is lying on the other side of the fishing limits of the sea around Gujarat.

Even in this digitally advanced age, the police and administration take such incidences seriously and for good reason. Pigeons are known to be the birds which can be trained to go from one location to another and come back since centuries. The folktales around the world have versions of pigeons used for transmitting love letters. Use of pigeons for spying was also known.

While in recent times, it is rare that pigeons could be used for spying but no agile state can turn blind eye to any symptom which may compromise the security of the nation.
