One of the youngest cricketers of India, Shreyas Iyer celebrates his birthday today. This young batsman is known for his strike-rate. Some even drew comparisons to legendary Indian batsman Virender Sehwag for Iyer’s fearless and dominating stroke-play, and more specifically, his hand-eye coordination, even against abrupt lateral movement.
He hails from Mumbai and recently made his test debut against New Zealand where he smashed his first test century and entered the list of elite batsmen who scored a 100 on their debut. Pravin Amre, the assistant coach of Delhi Daredevils at that time was responsible for bringing Iyer to Delhi. Iyer didn’t let his childhood coach down. There is a documentary based on Iyer’s junior and age-group cricket journey titled ‘Shreyas Iyer Documentary – A Father’s Dream’ directed by cricket writer Aayush Puthran.
Iyer made headlines when Delhi Daredevils bought him at the 2015 IPL auction for a whopping INR 2.6 crore, and he repaid the faith with interest. Opening the batting, he aggregated 439 runs from 14 matches and went to win the IPL emerging player of the year award
Earlier, Shreyas Iyer got a whopping 2.6 Crores from a base price of 10 Lakhs and attained the distinction of being the highest-earning uncapped player of the 2015 auction – the IPL lingo for the most sought-after uncapped player.
Earlier, Veteran Indian cricketer spinner Harbhajan Singh backed Iyer to replace struggling Ajinkya Rahane in the middle-order position in India’s Test batting line-up for the impending tour of South Africa, saying that he is “ready to fill the slot”. Not just this, he also got a standing ovation after dream debut in Kanpur.
Vibes of India wishes Shreyas Iyer, a happiest birthday.
